Birthday Party

A typical birthday party includes some of the following activities:  Songs, fingerplays, puppets, rhythm instruments (bells/shakers/sticks), dance (bells/pompoms/colored scarves), parachute play with bubbles, and story time.

One and two year olds will need a lap to sit in for interactive rhythmic games while older children may be comfortable participating on their own.  Jo Anne plays the autoharp and brings pre-recorded music for the ‘freeze dance’ game.

Jo Anne will come 15 minutes ahead of time to set-up.  She then sits on the floor with a puppet and interacts quietly with the children, allowing them to get comfortable with her.  The music program begins with everyone invited to sit on the floor in a circle. We then sing many songs with rhythm and rhyme, hand-clapping, bouncing, jumping and creative dramatics. Puppets may be used to enhance this segment as well as rhythm instruments (shakers for one year-olds, tone bells or rhythm sticks for older groups). Bells or pompoms are then passed out for a lively 'Freeze Dance' (non-walkers are carried), and this is sometimes followed by 'The Hokey Poke'. Parachute Play includes making waves, going under, ring-around-the-rosey, and taking turns riding on top. Bubble Time follows. Finally, we all sit again for requests....'Did we forget anyone's favorite song?'...and, of course, a rousing chorus of 'Happy Birthday To You!'.

Fee:  $250 

Size of Party: The younger the child, the fewer the guests is always ideal. A mixed age group is good. A party of 8 to 12 children allows for personal interaction and comfort and is less overwhelming for the birthday child. Talk to Jo Anne about having a bigger party. Fee may vary with larger group.

Space: Your house or suitable rented space. Indoors is always preferable due to outdoor distractions. A large floor space cleared of toys is ideal.
